Ihwa Mural Village: Unexpected Art in an Unexpected Place

PhotoGrid_1498373435340
If you will look at this image, you will think its just a painting but this painting is telling the people to be silent when visiting the village.

It’s a great day again! I went to Ihwa Mural Village today and Naksan Park together with my son. Before I only know the shopping streets in Hyehwa-dong and I didn’t know that there is more interesting place near that place than the shopping streets. Through online searching, I found this place.

This Cinema scope was featured in the drama “You’re Too Much”.

Ihwa Mural Village is an area of Ihwa, Seoul near Naksan Park. It is located between Hyehwa Station and Dongdaemun Station and this place was revitalized by the ‘Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s public “Ihwa-dong Naksan Project” in 2006 together with 70 artists to make murals and installations. This place is popular destination to everyone, foreigners or locals for its scenic setting and murals.

Ihwa-dong was one of South Korea’s “moon villages” or daldongnae, derived from their hilltop locations and traditionally thought to offer a better view of the moon than the other cities. Moon villages were inhabited by mostly working class or poor people who couldn’t afford housing in flat or central parts of the city.

There he is! My cute son 🙂 After taking that photo he fell asleep 😀

PhotoGrid_1498372420957
I think this is the best spot here but sad I can’t even take a photo of myself, I mostly travel with my son.
PhotoGrid_1498371514842
Sad I didn’t have the chance to see it like before 😦

This flower staircase was featured in drama “Rooftop Prince” of Park Yoo Chun.

PhotoGrid_1498371558245
Sad that the painting on the stairs fades already but I saw from one post that the people from the village erased the painting due to the numbers of guests visiting the place and it became noisy.

I like this black and white, actually this is not a painting. If I remember it was made of iron or something and when you take a photo it will turn out like this, it’s like an illusion.

PhotoGrid_1498372828274
This house was featured in korean drama “Doctors” and “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”

I know I haven’t seen the other murals but what I saw was enough to know that there are unexpected beautiful things in an unexpected place. I also found out through my travels that it’s more fun to discover new places than stressing out yourself in nonsensical things ❤

How to go there:

  • Take the subway Line 4 and get down to Hyehwa Station, Exit 2.
  • Walk for about 200meters. Once you see the street called Dongdung-gil, turn left.
  • Keep walking until you reach the Lock Museum.
  • About 50 meters, turn right in a street called Naksan Gongson-gil then walk until you reach Naksan Park.

    HOPE YOU ENJOY! ❤

Cocomong Farm Village

PhotoGrid_1498283662416

This place is can’t be in your itinerary when you visit Korea but I would like to share this for those who are living in Korea, specially in part of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do that have kids. If you are looking for a place where kids can play outdoor while learning, this farm village is recommended. Cocomong Farm Village, located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi-do Province is an organic farming experience facility themed under the character of Cocomong.

When you pass by the Shed Playground you will see this giant Robocong.

Cocomong is a Korean 3D animated children’s program featuring cute animals that are half animals and half food. Cocomong is a money-sausage who protects Refrigerator Land with Robocong from evil Virus King.

SEOULLO 7017

SEOULLO 7017 was opened to public last May 20, 2017. This is located in the heart of Seoul, a 938m- overpass starting from Manli-dong to Namdaemun Market, where you can able to see or view the streets below from above.

SEOULLO 7017 derived its name from the Seoul Station overpass that was built in the 1970’s and been transformed into a modernized and beautiful sky garden this year of 2017. There are approximately 24,000 kinds of plants and flowers that fill the garden and have a 4 meter high pillars located along the Seoullo that will turn into lamps at night.

The way going to or from Manli-dong Plaza.

ROSE GARDEN

Though the roses are not in bloom anymore like the one I saw from Seoul Rose Festival, the Rose Garden is I think the most attractive sight here. There is also a Rose Stage where some performances held  and usually the schedule is night time.

PEEPING POT: IMAGINE

This peeping pot have small holes that you can see some live pictures. I tried to peep on the hole and I saw the miniature of the road down the overpass and a flying butterfly. A passed on this spot twice but no one was curious what is it. So I tried looking in the holes then few people came to look after what I did.

BANGBANG PLAYGROUND

A trampouline for kids less than 150cm tall. I saw kids passing by together with their parents but no one ever wanted to try due to hot weather. It’s better if they put a shade so its not too hot to play even at daytime.

SEE THROUGH HOLES

Okay?! I tried looking down but I can’t. I’m afraid of heights ㅠㅠ Through the holes you can see different kinds of vehicles passing by.

PEBBLE FOOT POOL

When Seoullo 7017 was opened to public this Pebble Foot Pool was working and sad to say that today its under repair. A blogger who came to check this out says she thought the water was warm and relaxing but when she tried, it was very cold.

Nothing is much interesting in this place except for the flowers but this place is something you can’t add in your itinerary. There are more better and interesting places in Seoul. But take note if you are korean drama addict this sky garden was featured in “Fight MY Way” korean drama.

But if you want to check the place out of curiosity, then you can check this plan so you can see Seoullo 7017’s amenities. The place must be overrated but one thing I liked here was the elevators. The place is convenient to old people who wants to have a walk at the over pass, easy way to parents who have kids that use strollers and for handicaps who use wheelchairs.

Myeongdong’s Hello Kitty Cafe

Who would never know the cutest kitty in the world named as “Hello Kitty”. Hello Kitty is a fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio. After her creation in 1974, she was introduced in March 1975 and the character was brought to the US in 1976. Because of Hello Kitty’s cutie and kawaii image it catches the heart of pre-adolescent females and even adult consumers. Hello Kitty became well known across the world due to her variety of products ranging from fashion accessories and school supplies. There are several Hello Kitty TV series too for children.  Honestly, I am a fan of Hello Kitty. 😊

EVERLAND

Everland…. “wah~~~” this was the only word that came from my mouth when I saw Everland. It was so beautiful, enchanting and impressive.  This theme park is the largest in South Korea and no doubt, it is the best amusement park. It is located at the Everland Resort in Yongin, a city in Gyeonggi-do.
