Dongdaemun Design Plaza (동대문 디자인 플라자) or DDP have the impressive structure of modern architecture. Designed by Architect Zaha Hadid, in 2014. The design from the outside is stunning and cool while the inside have the spectacular designs continue with elaborate archways and fancy lighting.
Comprised of five halls: Art Hall, Museum, Design Lab, Design Market, and the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park.
DDP was selected as one of the “Top 52 Places to Visit in 2015” by the New York Times. It was also the most Instagram tagged location in 2015 in Korea. DDP also is a great venue for exhibitions, design-related shows, events and gatherings.
Due to the unique design it became the newest and most iconic landmark in Korean design industry and A MUST see place for every modern architecture and design lover!
My son enjoyed this corner where people can play this piano. While walking around I heard that a lot of Koreans are really talented. Someone played the piece of “Yiruma” and another person played the “Moonlight Sonata” of Beethoven.
When you enter the MUSEUM and reach the top you will see this place. When you walk down you will be directed to Dongdaemun History and Culture Park.
Inside the ART HALL. Before I came here there’s some art and calligraphy about Korean History and now it became a cafe but still had the theme of art.
I saw this at the Museum when I didn’t used the elevator. I just followed the white colored interior going down.
This is one of my favorite since this was featured in SBS drama “You Who Came from the Stars”.
There was also an exhibit of Disney Pixar at the Museum. Best for kids and even adults who loves Disney Pixar movies.
Before this places was an open space and they transformed it into a beautiful LED Rose Garden that displays the unique, magnificent and advance technology of LED lights. There are 25,550 LED roses light up in the dark and it was truly impressive and serves as the best attraction in Seoul during the night specially for couples.
This was called as DDP Camera and another was 지구밥 and I think this was a stall selling food or something at night? Not sure about it 😀
Dongdaemun History & Culture Park (동대문역사문화공원) have the traditional and modern cultural facilities that comes all at once with harmony and this was also the newest park in Seoul. DHCP was used before as a military training ground during the Joseon dynasty.
On my way to DDP I saw this cute doll wearing hanbok near the subway station, so I thought of buying one 🙂
DDP is closed to Dongdaemun Market where you can shop lots of things. I recommend this place to be visited during the night since the LED Rose Garden will be light up during the night. It is also near to Seoul Fortress and you can reach Naksan Park and Ihwa Mural Village too.
